As I progressed through the book, some of it was less interesting to me particularly because I am not what you would consider an athlete. I’m not really into sports of any kind and struggle to maintain a work-out schedule. However, as I read, I felt encouraged to rethink some of my strategies and attitudes about my personal physical fitness, particularly after reading Sow in Health, Reap a Longer Life. Far too often I hear elderly people saying, “If I had known I was going to be around this long, I would have taken better care of myself.”
I feel like Mike’s book is a sort of physical, mental and spiritual fitness guide. I think there are principles and concepts in this book that could help anyone willing to apply them. The book was an easy read, upbeat and encouraging. He never beats anyone over the head with shoulds or oughts. His biblical references seemed to be in line with the word as I have understood it.
I found the book a little tough to get into at first because of all the sport analogies, but if you have an athlete on your hands, this would be a good choice. In spite of my lukewarm appreciation of sport, I thought the fitness aspects he covered were not only worth reading, but worth sharing.
